Phoenix Sudanese community reacts to referendum results

I got a lot of great information from my interviews but of course, I couldn’t put it all in my article because it would be pages and pages long, however, I really gained an extensive amount of knowledge about the history of the Sudanese conflict and political issues that I never knew about.

I’ll continue to follow up on South Sudan’s journey to independence and if there’s interest, I may put up the rest of my notes on South Sudan as well.

Gearing Up for the 2011 Referendum in South Sudan

With the upcoming referendum quickly approaching on January 9, 2011, the world anxiously awaits to see what will happen in Sudan. Separation is expected between the south and north, but whether or not the event will be bloodless is not as sure.

George Clooney and John Prendergast launched the Satellite Sentinel Project with Harvard University and the United Nation’s Operational Satellite Applications Programme to monitor troop movements in South Sudan and help increase transparency. You can watch the images online and be part of the “anti-genocide paparazzi” as Clooney calls the concerned worldwide audience to TIME Magazine.

Women for Women International released a video to spotlight the women of Sudan during this critical time, since they are often the biggest targets in the outbreak of war.
