Being a resident of Arizona, I find this tragedy extremely personal and disconcerting. I didn’t know Rep. Gabrielle Giffords very well or much about her politics. She is one of my Twitter followers, though the account is probably handled by her staff. I have many friends though that worked in her office, interned there and know others who did the same.
Politics is becoming a dirty game, we know that. Civility is a thing of the past, brushed aside and insulted with terms like “politically correct.” Tolerance is now some kind of burden which undermines the foundation of our country and its values.
I think we need to remember that we are in a civilized, democratic country so we are expected to act in a decent, respectable manner, aren’t we?
It’s one thing to have differing beliefs. It’s another to take someone out for having them. I don’t mean to push the blame on any one party because both sides have done their fair share of suggestive and provocative taunts.
My condolences to Gabrielle Giffords, the judge, Christina Green and the other innocent victims who aren’t being as extensively covered by the media.
